Frequently Asked Warranty Questions:
How do I pick the right Panamax for my Computer Application?
In order for any Panamax to function as designed to protect your electronic equipment, In short, much electronic equipment that we rely on today (from computers to Phone Systems) has signal wiring that leads into it along with the AC power cords. For example, the fax machine there in the corner has a phone line, and many computers in the workplace have network cabling that allows the communication along LANs or WANs. These signal wires are some of the connective pathways that Panamax signal-side protectors are designed to protect. If left unprotected, the wires can lead damaging surges straight into your equipment.
Why doesn't a Panamax Max2 protect a computer with a modem?
A Panamax Max2 is a surge protector designed to protect only AC power to two receptacles. Because of the fact that you can read this right now on a computer, there is some type of signal wire that lead this data from the Internet to your computer. If you have a computer that only has AC power cords leading to it, the Max2 is a great protector for your application. However, ALL wires that lead into or out of the equipment being protected must pass through an appropriate Panamax Surge Protector at each grounded outlet. Thus a Max2 would be the wrong protector for the computer with a modem. One would need a protector with telephone protection such as: Max 8 Tel, Max 2 Tel, Powermax 8 Tel, or any of our AllPath AC units with a Max Tel 1 Module. Panamax has consistently lead the industry by being the first company to offer signal side protectors across all applications.
What is "ground skew" and how does it affect my protection and warranty?
"Ground skew," or "ground potential rise," is a condition in which the safety ground at outlets in a building develop different electrical potentials (different voltages) which can lead to damaging current passing through signal wires that bridge the equipment at different outlets. In fact, this ground skew can cause equipment damage even when ALL of the AC or power wiring is protected at ALL outlets by a AC surge protectors!!! Surge protection can not prevent these potentials from developing. However, if all signal paths are protected by a Panamax as they lead into equipment at one grounded outlet, this will prevent damage. Again, in order for any Panamax to function as designed to protect your electronic equipment, ALL wires that lead into, or out of the equipment being protected must pass through an appropriate Panamax Surge protector at each grounded outlet. In this way, the Panamax will block the surge from getting through the signal or data lines before damaging the equipment.

Will an adapter void my warranty?
Yes. Any form of multiple outlet strip, AC receptacle splitter, other brand of surge protector, or non-Panamax extension cord will void the Panamax Connected Equipment Warranty. This is true whether they are used before or after the Panamax product. The reason for this is that we cannot guarantee the quality or performance of these other items. The only way that Panamax can be certain that you are completely protected is to make sure that the protection products used are of the highest quality and are allowed to function as they are engineered. If more AC outlets are needed, it is acceptable to 'daisy chain' Panamax protectors into each other. The use of coax, telephone, or other signal line splitters after the Panamax protector is acceptable as long as Panamax connection diagrams and instructions are followed.
